A Church Shaped By
Our Village
For Our Village.
Tucked away in the rolling hills of North Devon, the village of Berrynarbor is a special place: full of beauty, character, and history. Just a few miles east of the seaside town of Ilfracombe, our village nestles in the steep and leafy Sterridge Valley, where winding lanes, green pastures, and friendly faces make it a joy to call home.
For centuries, this has been a community shaped by the land and sea - once known for farming, quarrying, and fishing, and now warmly welcoming visitors who come to enjoy our stunning coastline, campsites, and bed & breakfasts. The South West Coast Path passes along our parish too, offering unforgettable views across the Bristol Channel.
At the heart of it all stands St Peter’s Church, a much-loved landmark both for its faith and its presence high above the valley. Our church is easy to spot - its beautiful red sandstone tower rises proudly on Barton Lane, an uplifting sight whether you’re walking up from the village or catching a glimpse from afar.
St Peter’s has been a place of worship for many hundreds of years. Though shaped and restored across the centuries, it still carries the marks of its long history: the graceful Early English chancel with its lancet windows, thought to date back to the 13th century, and the impressive 15th-century tower, which so many of us here in the village hold dear. Inside, you’ll find a calm and welcoming space - filled with light, character, and the prayers of generations who have worshipped here before us.
